DORAL, Fla., March 8 (UPI) — Tiger Woods rode a 7-under 65 into the lead in Friday’s play at the WGC Cadillac Championship in Florida.
Woods opened the day in a five-way tie for first but had eight birdies in the second round for a 36-hole total of 13-under 131 and a two-stroke lead.
Graeme McDowell, one of those tied for first after the first round, is second at 11-under after a 67. He has yet to have a bogey in the tournament.
Phil Mickelson and Steve Stricker shot 67 each and are tied for third at 10-under. Bubba Watson, another of the first-round leaders, is at 9-under for the tournament and in fifth after Friday’s 3-under 69.
World No. 1 Rory McIlroy was somewhat more steady Friday, backing his first-round of 1-over 73 with a 3-under 69. He’s tied for 32nd at 2-under 142.
Woods posted four birdies in the span of Nos. 4-8 and had three more over 10-13. He bogeyed the par-4 14th for the second consecutive day but birdied 16.
