Cold-Shooting Iowa State Falls at TCU

logo_iowa_state_cyclonesFORT WORTH, Texas -No. 23 Iowa State (20-7 overall, 11-6 Big 12) trailed by 15 points with 12:03 left and chipped away at TCU’s (9-19 overall, 2-15 Big 12) lead but fell short in a 61-58 loss to the Horned Frogs in the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum Saturday.

Iowa State remains the No. 2 seed in the Big 12 standings after Kansas State upset Texas Tech 68-62 Saturday in Manhattan, Kan. The Cyclones play host to Oklahoma State Monday at 7 p.m. CST in Hilton Coliseum in the final regular-season game for both teams. The Big 12 Tournament begins Friday in Dallas, Texas.

Chelsea Prince scored with 12:03 to go in the game to give TCU a 51-36 lead. Iowa State struggled from the field, making just 10-of-36 points field-goal attempts from behind the arc (.278) and 16-of-56 overall (.286) from the field. The Cyclones drew within 59-57 with 1:20 to go. The Cyclones got a stop on TCU’s next possession but turned over the ball in the final minute and a pair of Kamy Cole free throws sealed Iowa State’s fate.

Brynn Williams led Iowa State with 20 points, hitting six treys in 18 attempts. Halllie Christofferson had 13 points. TCU was led by Zahna Medley’s 18 points.

Williamson’s fourth three of the first half gave Iowa State a 27-20 lead with 4:24 left. But the Cyclones did not make another shot from the field the rest of the half. TCU countered with a trio of treys by Medley and the Horned Frogs led 33-28 at the break.
