JASPER COUNTY — An Iowa motorcyclist was killed early Wednesday morning after his motorcycle left the roadway, struck a culvert and overturned on Highway 163, according to the Iowa State Patrol.
The crash happened at about 4:16 a.m. on June 10, 2026, on eastbound Highway 163 at mile marker 23.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, Zachariah Paul Lewis Pollock, 31, of Knoxville, Iowa, was driving a 2020 Harley-Davidson motorcycle eastbound on Highway 163 when the motorcycle left the roadway. The motorcycle struck a culvert and overturned.
Pollock was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was transported by Jasper County EMS to the State Medical Examiner’s Office.
The motorcycle was towed by Hewitt’s Towing.
The Iowa State Patrol said the crash remains under investigation. The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office and Jasper County EMS assisted at the scene.
The fatal crash comes during a time of year when motorcycle traffic typically increases across Iowa as warmer weather brings more riders onto highways and rural roads. Safety officials routinely urge both motorcyclists and other drivers to use extra caution, especially during early morning, nighttime and low-visibility travel periods.
No other vehicles were listed in the State Patrol’s initial crash report.
