Man killed on I-35 while chasing dog

iowa-state-patrol-logo-doorWARREN COUNTY – A man was killed on Christmas day when a a van stuck him on the free way while chasing a dog.

According to a report from the Iowa State Patrol, 34-year-old Shelton Short of Osceola, Iowa was driving a 1997 Chevy Suburban southbound on Interstate 35 near the 54 mile-marker when he struck and killed a pedestrian who was in the roadway.

The report states that 74-year-old Lawrence Anderson of Marine on St. Croix, Minnesota was in the left lane of the southbound road, chasing a dog that had “gotten away from him.” It was reported that Short did not see Anderson and he was unable to avoid the collision. Anderson was thrown from impact and “came to rest in the median up against the cable barrier.” He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident remains under investigation.
