MASON CITY – If you want to help fight hunger and have a chance at a free round-trip airline ticket to the Twin Cities, your opportunity is here.

The Mason City Airport announced this week that in honor of Hunger Action Month, when you bring any non-perishable food item to the Great Lakes counter at the airport throughout the month of September, you’ll be eligible for a chance to win one of four round-trip tickets between Mason City and Minneapolis.

You can donate as much food as you like but entries are limited to one per person, per week is permitted.  Donations will be accepted Monday through Friday from 2 p.m. –7 p.m at the Mason City Municipal Airport, 9184 265th Street. Weekend hours are limited.

The campaign is being held to support the 5th Annual “Flyin’ 4 Food” campaign to benefit the Hawkeye Harvest Food Bank in Mason City.

Is the food for the Bumbling Bee Bakery?

I know for a fact that some of the workers have taken things home for themselves!! Which is one reason why I stopped donating to it! So sad that we have to have dishonest people working to help others! But behind the those honest faces are taking the food you donated to their own homes!!! And they were laughing about it! Sick!!!

None of us are perfect. If only perfection were allowed none of us would b here. My wife used to volunteer at the food bank until her health got bad. She told me how many older men or women really appreciated what they got. She said later that she had seen a couple of them in Fareway looking at cans and sometimes they put the can back on the shelf. Hope Hillery never has to pass the judgement test herself. She would flunk compassion.

If they want food, they should get jobs.

What a sad comment you just made. Some people don’t get things handed to them like you do B*tch!

@Hillery-that is a terrible thing to say. There are people that are hungry and have no way to help themselves. We spend money on dumb A## statues and the museum and Stockman House but let people go hungry. What is wrong with you??

Is marrying for money considered a job?

Nice idea. Was at the food bank a couple of weeks ago and dropped off some garden produce. Nice people but they sure could use a lot more food.
