Forest City, Iowa – On February 27 and 28, Waldorf College vocal students will have the opportunity to work with two renowned instructors: Dr. Anton Armstrong, conductor of the St. Olaf Choir at St. Olaf College, and Dr. Jeffrey Madison, a celebrated baritone from the University of Wisconsin – Superior.

“I am excited for Dr. Armstrong and Dr. Madison to provide our students with another perspective on music,” said Dr. Adam Luebke, Waldorf College Director of Choral Activities.

Connections with Waldorf faculty bring Dr. Armstrong and Dr. Madison to campus. “Dr. Armstrong is a former professor of mine. Since graduating from St. Olaf, he has been extremely supportive of me and my career in the choral field,” explained Dr. Luebke. “Dr. Madison has a personal connection with our voice professor, Sarah Luebke, having performed together twice with the Lyric Opera of the North.”

On February 27, Dr. Armstrong will lead the Waldorf College Choir in an extended rehearsal, working on selections for the choir’s upcoming summer tour. “Dr. Armstrong will provide the choir with a new way of evolving from individual singers into a communal choral sound,” said Dr. Luebke.

The fourth conductor of the St. Olaf Choir and Tosdal Professor of Music at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn., Dr. Armstrong is a sought-after director that has worked with the World Youth Choir in Venezuela and the United States. A guest conductor at the 2010 Zimriya – The World Assembly of Choirs, he has been a featured clinician at three World Symposia on Choral Music and serves as the co-chair of the Artistic Committee for this year’s symposium in South Korea.

Dr. Madison, an acclaimed baritone, will lead a vocal master class with select Waldorf students on February 28. “Dr. Madison will give individual voice students a fresh approach to understanding how to be individual interpretive artists, while helping reinforce their technical approach to singing,” explains Dr. Luebke.

A praised vocalist, Dr. Madison recently made his Carnegie Hall debut in Neilson’s Symphony No. 3 as the baritone soloist with the Minnesota Orchestra. He has performed with the Fargo-Moorhead Opera, Duluth-Superior Symphony Orchestra, UCLA Opera Theater, and Skylark Opera, among others. Dr. Madison teaches studio voice, class voice, and music appreciation at University of Wisconsin – Superior in Superior, Wis.
