(Mason City) – The Cerro Gordo County Department of Public Health is once again offering county businesses a unique (and FREE) opportunity to participate in a six session Worksite Wellness Programming series. The goal of this opportunity is to assist businesses in developing or enhancing employee wellness programs, policies, and system changes to improve the health of employees while improving the business’ bottom line.

The Health Department will offer six monthly workshops to worksite representatives, assisting them in four major phases of worksite wellness programming.

  • January, February:             Assessments (Audits, Data Gathering)
  • March, April :                         Action Plan Development + Promotion (Education)
  • May :                                     Behavior, Policy, and Systems Changes (Implementation)
  • August :                        Evaluation (& Planning for Future)

Monthly workshops will be held for approximately one hour at the Health Department.  We will provide materials and instructions on tasks for representatives to complete at their respective worksites during the course of each month.  Each organization is not required to complete all recommendations from the Health Department, but rather choose which options would be most appropriate for their worksite.  Time commitment of employees leading the worksite wellness efforts will be at full discretion of the individual worksites.

As the program takes shape, financial investments into worksites’ employee wellness programs will be at the full discretion of the individual worksites.  Some initiatives will only require employee time, while other worksites might choose initiatives that include small to large expenses ($1 – $1000+).  At no time, however, will the Health Department mandate specific initiatives.

Please consider your organization’s participation in this beneficial opportunity.  The process will help your business develop a sound, productive worksite wellness program built upon strong strategies and sustained by positive outcomes.   (If you are business located in Mason City, many of the strategies addressed over the six sessions will help your business achieve Blue Zones Project™ Certification.)

If your organization is interested in sending a representative to the Worksite Wellness Meetings, please contact Kelli Huinker, Health Promotion Manager at the Cerro Gordo County Department of Public Health by phone at 641-421-9312 or by email at wellness@cghealth.com by January 11, 2013.
