It doesn’t sound as if FEMA has improved much since Katrina or the floods in Iowa. It makes you wonder if they did any preparation prior to the storm to move things into place. You would have thought they would at least have had generators in place to run more gas stations and to place porta potties all over the place. They talked about the “perfect storm” for more than a week before this thing happened. Lousy planning.

Not the feds fault, all the people knew this was coming but they stay there unprepared. No one should be standing in line for gas. All the cars should have been full and many full gas cans ready for generators to run for a couple weeks. Had they dropped off port a pottys they would have been washed away just adding to the mess. You can buy a five gallon bucket with bags to use as a toilet for little money. If these people decide to stay and are still unprepared they need to look in the mirror not to Washington.

They were all warned to prepare for at least 5 days and they didn’t do it. It is kind of like the ones that were told to leave and then didn’t go and had to be rescued at taxpayer expense and risking the lives of the emergency people. It is hard to feel sorry for people who live in a flood zone in hurricane country and then demand taxpayer help.

Well, I didn’t mean they should have had stuff out and ready before the storm. They should have had these things staged west of the storm area, loaded and ready to go in as soon as the sky cleared. It’s true that the people did not know how to prepare for the storm, but did FEMA put any preparation lists on TV or in the newspapers prior to the storm so people knew what to have on hand? I have no idea, but I know those bureaucrats don’t know much more about how to prepare for a storm than the New Yorkers did. Remember it took FEMA 5 days to get potable water to Mason City after the 2008 flood. I went out of town to buy drinking water for the business and employees that Sunday and I had to bring water daily from CL just to flush toilets at work. The big box stores did a far better job of getting water to MC than FEMA did! They were useless.

I just heard from a friend that delivered blankets and clothing to NYC that they were directed to a huge warehouse. The warehouse was full of goods, but nothing was leaving it. No one was distributing anything from it. They have no plan for getting the stuff to the people who need it. The guy was so disgusted. Call me cynical, but some crook will probably auction all that stuff off to someone who will sell it on eBay, the way things go these days.
