Iowa doctor disciplined for failing to report child abuse

DES MOINES – Recently, the Iowa Board of Medicine took the following actions:

Dennis F. Rolek, D.O., a 66 year-old Iowa-licensed physician who currently practices family medicine in Des Moines and emergency medicine in several locations in Iowa, entered in to a Stipulated Order – Agreement Not to Practice Medicine with the Board on August 31, 2012. On April 5, 1989, Dr. Rolek entered into a Settlement Agreement with the Board in which he was disciplined for failing to meet his mandatory obligation to report child abuse. He was fined $1,000.00.

On September 1, 1994, Dr. Rolek entered into a Settlement Agreement with the Board in which he was disciplined for the excessive use of drugs or alcohol which impairs his ability to practice medicine and surgery with reasonable skill and safety. His license was placed on probation for a period of five years, subject to Board monitoring. The probation was terminated by the Board on August 27, 1998. Under the terms of the Stipulated Order – Agreement Not to Practice Medicine, Dr. Rolek has agreed not to engage in any aspect of the practice of medicine until the Board approves his return to the practice of medicine in order to protect the public’s safety.

Consumers can submit complaints against physicians through the Board’s Website at www.medicalboard.iowa.gov, by calling (515) 281-5847, or by mail at 400 SW 8th Street, Suite C, Des Moines, IA 50309-4686.
