MASON CITY – George Huber founded the Huber Supply Co. in 1939 and for about thirty years the Huber Supply Co. has put on a Welding Expo at 1527 North Federal Avenue.
The Welding Expo, held Friday, September 7th, was a popular place again this year.
“Of all the Expo’s I’ve been to around town, this one always has the most people,” said one tool customer.
There was free food, demonstrations, welding contests and a motorcycle show by the X-Metal Riders.
Cody Huber, Regional Sales Manager out of Owattona, Minnesota and grandson of George Huber, said, “We have a ‘Try it before you buy it’ policy going on today to show our customer appreciation. We are here to have a good time. Students from NIACC, Lake Mills and Sheffield are here. We want them to know the future of Welding.” (More on the future of welding in the video, below.)
High school student Trevor Maser (see photo, bottom) was watching a demonstration of welding. “I’m interested in a future of welding,” he said, ” because I’ll have to make good money and I want to know how to repair things that need to be fixed in this country.”
Lake Mills students were gathered around a welding contest that was going on. The contestants needed to weld through a solid piece of steel. Whoever did it in the shortest amount of time won.
The X-Metal Riders put on two shows. They rode their bikes in a sphere and did long distance jumps.
A fire fighter that was at the expo said, “We are here today for safety reasons and to be on hand in-case anyone gets hurt.”
