DES MOINES – The Iowa Senate approved Medicaid expansion Monday, 26-23.
“First step to doing right by uninsured, working Iowans!” Democrats tweeted soon after the vote. The vote on Senate File 269 was along party lines in the Democratically-controlled Senate.
Iowa Governor Terry Branstad opposes the measure, which would next head to the Republican-controlled House.
Sen. President Pam Jochum said after the vote that “I have no doubt that expanding Medicaid is not only financially smart, is the morally right thing to do.”
