Teen to face murder charge after shooting baby in face

BRUNSWICK, Ga., March 25 (UPI) — A 15-year-old suspected in the shooting death of a baby in Brunswick, Ga., was told by a judge Monday he will be charged with murder.

The unidentified minor, shackled and wearing an orange prison jumpsuit in Glynn County Court, appeared before Judge Timothy Barton, who did not indicate if the teen would be charged as a minor or adult, CNN reported Monday.

The accused, and a 17-year-old identified as De’Marquise Elkins, both face murder charges in a case that has made national headlines. Sherry West, pushing her 13-month-old son in a stroller last Thursday, told police she was approached by two males who demanded money and threatened to kill the baby.

She said one grabbed her purse while the other opened fire, a shot grazing her head and another striking the child in the leg.

“And then, all of a sudden, he walked over and shot my baby in the face,” West said.
