MESERVEY – A new accessible door with an automatic door opener has been installed at the Meservey Public Library and is enabling library patrons of all ages to easily enter the building. This door was provided by a grant given out by the Cerro Gordo County Community Foundation (CGCCF), an affiliate of the Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa. The door opens at the touch of a button and allows people in wheelchairs or with armloads of books to enter quickly and safely. The library was built on one level with no steps, so the installation of the door has made this building completely accessible to people with disabilities.
The Meservey Public Library serves the population of Meservey and the surrounding rural area. The library features a children’s section with computer, educational toys and comfortable bean bag chairs. Other areas of the building include an adult reading area, a teen section, and a meeting room with large screen TV. In addition to fiction, non-fiction, Christian, and biographical books, the library offers videos, DVD’s, periodicals, and the use of four computers with internet service.
The Meservey Public Library hosts many activities. During this past summer, a children’s reading program provided hours of organized reading activities and crafts for students who were home from school. Upcoming activities will include a hayride, a Halloween Party, a flu shot clinic, and a garage sale fundraiser. Library Director Pat Suntken encourages all in the Meservey area to stop in and check out the Meservey Public Library. The library is open on Monday from 6:30-8:30pm, Tuesday-Wednesday from 1:00-4:00pm, Thursday from 12:30-4:30pm and 6:30-8:30pm, and on Saturday morning from 9:00- 12:00 noon.
