MASON CITY – Starting around 4:00 am Sunday, with dropping temperatures and hazardous driving conditions, calls from all around Mason City started coming in to authorities for accidents, some including injuries and damage to vehicles.
An accident on the overpass on 19th Street SW and another accident on Highway 65, near the Avenue of the Saints, happened almost at the same time. Both accidents caused injuries and motorists were transported to Mercy Medical Hospital by ambulance.
Emergency crews were busy with rollovers and accidents along Interstate 35 with reports of rollovers at the 193 and 194 exits and more heading north. Ambulances and tow trucks were all busy.
Police were saying that people were not slowing down and the bridges and overpasses are 100% ice covered. People need to take caution and drive slowly. There’s is a tow ban on the Avenue of the Saints at this time.
