MASON CITY – Lehigh Cement celebrated 100 years in Mason City on Saturday.
Plant Manager Tom O’Neill said the plant is going strong with 133 employees and is looking forward to the future in Mason City.
“In 100 years, another plant manager will be standing here, doing the same thing,” he said.
President & Chief Executive Officer Daniel M. Harrington thanked all his employees and stressed that safety continues to be Lehigh’s #1 concern.
“We feel very strongly about our employees and our customers,” Harrington said. “Mason City is a trendsetter… we pledge to get (our employees) home to your loved ones and your spouses… exactly the way you came to work. This plant does it right.”
Harrington was presented with a Certificate of Recognition by State Representative Linda Upmeyer from the Iowa General Assembly in appreciation for Lehigh’s contributions to the state and in celebration of the 100 year birthday.
“Thank you for all you have done,” Upmeyer said to Harrington.
O’Neil also presented a “momento” to Harrington for his contributions to the plant.
“We owe you a great debt of gratitude for your support over the years,” O’Neill said.
There was plant tours, gift bags, refreshments and even large inflatable toys for the kids.
Transit buses brought dozens of well-wishers to the event to take part.
