Head on crash kills one, injures 4 in Northeast Iowa

Waukon, Iowa – A head on crash near Waukon, Iowa on Iowa Highway 76 on Sunday afternoon at bout 1:09 PM killed one person and injured four more.

According to an Iowa State Patrol crash report, a GMC Sonoma pickup with one occupant crossed the center line and struck a Chevy K2500 pickup head on with four occupants: Dustin Egan, 31; Patrick Egan, 29 of Waukon; Lance Egan, 10; and Patrick Egan Sr.

The crash report states that a fire erupted under the Somoma and fully engulfed the vehicle.  A passerby hooked on to the the Chevy pickup truck with a log chain and pulled it back from the fire approximately 50 feet.

The driver of the Sonoma sustained fatal injuries and the person’s name has not yet been released.

The GMC pickup’s four occupants were all taken to a Waukon hospital.   The crash report states Dustin Egan, Patrick Egan and Patrick Egan Sr. suffered incapacitating injuries.  The report says only two of the four occupants in the GMC were using seat belts.
