Prescribed burning set for Cerro Gordo county

MASON CITY – The ROW Vegetation Management staff of the Cerro Gordo County Conservation Board will be conducting prescribed burns in county road right of ways during the next few months.

Prescribed burns are an effective resource management tool utilized to discourage the growth of weeds and woody vegetation, while promoting the growth of desired native vegetation in prairie restoration sites.  All staff members are certified in wildland firefighting and take all necessary safety precautions to minimize any risks associated with a prescribed fire.

Please use caution when approaching a burn site as staff members and equipment may be near the traveled portion of the road.

100% correct Bob. Tell them to go somewhere else and take another nap.

Conservation? Land ethic?
There is no worse time to burn than this late in the season? Wildlife nesting or birthing is at it’s peak when habitat dries out. Then we burn it. The absolute needless presribed burn in the county roadside ditches is just wrong.
Need something to do with STAFF? Call me as there is plenty of other county outdoor assests to fix up or maintain.
ROW would be a good place to start cutting a county budget.
