MASON CITY – A young lady visiting Mason City from Europe over the summer has lost a passport and hopes for its return.
On Tuesday at about 3:30 PM the woman mistakenly left her purse on a bench at 500 2nd Street NE just east of Good Shepherd Nursing Center.
When she returned just 15 minutes later, she “found the purse opened and her money, calendar, passport, German driver’s license and a pack of gum were taken,” her friend told NorthIowaToday.com.
“I don’t care at all about anything except my passport. It’s a tremendous hassle to get a new one while I’m in the US,” she says.

This is sad. What’s even sadder is the perpetrator will most likely collect the reward when he/she returns the passport. Wish I would have found the purse so I could have returned everything to her.
Why the hell is she carrying such an important document in her purse to begin with ? What an idiot !

The north end isn’t all bad people. I have lived here on the north end since I was 2 years old and now 18. Yes it seems to be where all the low lifes choose to live but there are still good quality people with morals too.
When did they remove the swastika from their passports?

What a difference between Americans and Europeans. I once left my wallet with money and drivers license, American Express card, etc. in a busy laundromat in Esbjerg, Denmark. I went back about 2 hours later after I discovered what I’d done, and my wallet was laying exactly where I had left it. And it still contained everything. Thank Heaven for the honesty of the Danes! It is sad that this young lady was the victim of a dishonest American who has made all Americans look bad. I’m sure when she returns to Germany she will spread the word.
Yea everyone here is not like that because I’ve read stories where people find money or purses and give it back to the person.
There’s definitely a difference between the Europeans and the Americans. There’s a big difference between the North End where this was left and the South End where it would still be sitting.

I live on the north end, my daughter found a wallet in the road, the address on the drivers license was the south end so we took it back to her. Not all north enders are bad, how many times do we have to say that.
