MASON CITY – Neighborhoods throughout Mason City are being invited to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide on Tuesday, August 7, 2012, for the 29th Annual National Night Out crime and drug prevention event. This event is sponsored in conjunction with the National Association of Town Watch, Target Stores, and locally by the Mason City Community Policing Advisory Board along with the Mason City Police Department.
National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; generate support for and participation in local anti-crime efforts; strengthen neighborhood spirit and community partnerships; sending a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are watching and fighting back.
Starting at 5:00 p.m. on August 7th, residents throughout Mason City are asked to encourage their neighbors to turn on porch lights and partake in a free fun packed “family affair” at East Park by the band shell. A variety of activities including a kid power pedal tractor pull event, Half Pint The Clown, games for little ones, demonstrations, and displays will be presented by local community and youth oriented organizations. Free food will be served and there will be a drawing for prizes. Join us in spending the evening outside “Giving Crime & Drugs a Going Away Party”.
Like my friend who called Mason City police last night 7-18-2012 at 3:30 am to report that there were loud voices behind her apartment in the alley behind La James college. She could hear loud voices of young people swearing and banging and so she called the police. The dispatcher proceeded to quiz HER about “how do you know they are young” to “why did you call?” (because they woke her up, duh) “what do you think they are doing back there?” to “we are pretty busy, I don’t know if anyone can come check it out” come on, when someone calls just say you will send someone! And then do it…
Dispatchers need to collect as much information as possible. What seems like a stupid question to you may be very pertinent information to the officer who responds to the call at 3:30 am in a dark alley. She/he was just doing her job. Give her/him a break.
Most people just come for the free stuff…
It would work if we tied ribbons and flew balloons
…and after 29 years, hows that working out?
Take that, criminals!!
good idea to pack a piece, if this night out comes after dark
make sure you lock your doors when you leave. Would not want your house robbed while at anti crime rally
This should help.
