Lane restrictions on northbound U.S. 218 near Janesville begin April 9

NEW HAMPTON, Iowa – April 5, 2012 – Road construction work on U.S. 218 near Janesville will require closure of one of the northbound lanes beginning Monday, April 9, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s New Hampton construction office. Traffic on U.S. 218 will be maintained at all times in various configurations.

Temporary traffic signals will be in place to control traffic starting April 9 at the intersection of U.S. 218 and Marquis Road/Seventh Street, and the intersection of U.S. 218 and Bremer County Road C-50/Barrick Road. The basic speed limit will be reduced to 55 mph through the construction zone.

This project is expected to be completed by late fall.

Also on April 9, North Main Street off of U.S. 218 in Janesville will be permanently closed.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts.
