MASON CITY – There have been reports of a “person with a gun” on Mason City’s north side early this afternoon.
NorthIowaToday.com was told that person was in the vacinity of Casey’s General Store, near the 800 block of North Federal Avenue.
No other information was immediately available.

I too live in the North End and have for about 20 years. My wife was raised up here so we know it pretty well. 99% of the people who live here are just like anyone else, however, the rent loards have been buying houses up here for the last few year and now the neighborhood is changing. We seem to have a lot of people that are not from here and also do not seem to work or have any source of income other than welfare. The 8 and 900 blocks of North Federal are dangerous as that seem to be where the criminal element is congregated. It has gotten somewhat better here in the last few moths but almost every night we heard gunshots. Hard to know where they are shooting but its not to far away.
I don’t think I would go on the North end without my gun .. just sayin ‘
I live on the North End. Tired of people thinking that North Enders are always the problem. There are people on the south side of town that are trouble too. Remember a couple of months ago when a meth garage blew up on the southeast part of town. The Ashley Inn Hotel that they are cleaning up to keep the bad people away, again the south side of town. Stop being so discriminating about the north end.
Just like any part of the city there are good bits and bad bits. The North side is just as safe as any other part of the city and a damn sight safer than where I used to live. I have no fear walking around here.
To the tard that said people with permits are stupid….look back n count the lawful gun owners that do crimes.
Of course there was another person with a gun. There are way too many people that have been allowed to have guns with the concealed weapons permits. That’s just what we need, more idiots with guns.
It’s not the people that are legally able to carry weapons that are the problem. We carry weapons because of the idiots that aren’t supposed to have them that would do us harm. I carry to protect myself and my family. I don’t carry because I think I’m a bad ass, I carry because I want to be left alone.
You choose to be a victim, those of us who legally carry are not the problem and may be the ones someday that get you out of a tight spot.
People legally owning and carrying weapons are not the problem. Criminals and the ignorant are the problem. Best learn to deal with both. Generally the ignorant make themselves well known, the criminals can be a bit harder to identify.

The way things have been up there in the past few months I’d probably carry a gun to.
So now is it illegal to carry a weapon or what? I’m confused…
