Indoor T&F: Four NIACC runners qualify for Nationals

AMES, Iowa – Four members of NIACC’s Track and Field teams qualified for the NJCAA Indoor National Championships on Saturday at the Iowa State Open.

Anna Buenneke (So., Hazleton, IA) qualified for the women’s national meet in the 1600 and 3000 meter runs.  She recorded a fifth place finish in the 3000, running that event in 10:45.  The qualifying time for that event was 11:06. She also placed 17th in the 1600 in a time of 5:19, seven seconds under the qualifying standard for that event.

Tanesha Edmond (So., St. Elizabeth, Jamaica) qualified for nationals and placed second in the high jump with a jump of 1.61 meters (5 feet, 3¼ inches).  The qualifying mark was 1.55 meters (5 feet,1 inch).

OJ Ojullu (Fr., Worthington, MN) and RJ Harris (So., Des Moines, IA) both qualified for the men’s 800 and 1000 meter runs.  In the 800, Harris was 16th at 1:58.20, and Ojullu was 17th at 1:58.50.  Both edged out the qualifying time of 1:59.43.

In the 1000, Ojullu was 25th with a time of 2:37.38, and Harris was 26th at 2:39.19.  The qualifying time for that event was 2:40.08.

NIACC’s teams will have three more meets before the NJCAA National Indoor Championships on March 2.  They will be at the Maverick Open in Mankato, Minnesota on Friday and Saturday.
