August Olsen, 26, dies; Mason City man leaves memories of laughter, adventure and family

MASON CITY — August Brandon Olsen, a Mason City man remembered for his smile, humor, adventurous spirit and love for family and friends, has died at age 26. Olsen passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, June 16, 2026. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd Street Northeast in Mason City, with Rev. Paul Lipstock officiating.

MASON CITY — August Brandon Olsen, a Mason City man remembered for his smile, humor, adventurous spirit and love for family and friends, has died at age 26.

Olsen passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, June 16, 2026.

He was born December 7, 1999, in Mason City, the eldest child of Robert Frederick Olsen III and Amber Lynn Paulson Olsen. He grew up in Mason City with his younger brothers, Chase and Ethan.

Olsen graduated from Mason City High School with the Class of 2018. During his school years, he participated in soccer and baseball, while wrestling and cross country remained lasting passions through middle school and high school. He also studied karate.

After graduation, Olsen attended North Iowa Area Community College, an experience he enjoyed.

He later worked for Eaton in Belmond, Cargill in Mason City and most recently Woodharbor.

Olsen found joy in adventure and everyday pleasures. He enjoyed video games, reading, listening to audiobooks, daily summer runs, hiking, rock climbing, traveling and spending time with family and friends at cookouts and gatherings.

Those who knew him remember a young man who could be reserved at first, but whose personality came alive around the people closest to him. His laugh, sense of humor and energy left lasting memories with family and friends.

Olsen is survived by his parents, Amber Lynn Olsen and Robert Frederick Olsen III; his brothers, Chase Olsen and Ethan Olsen; his grandparents, Terry and Gary Paulson of Nora Springs, Robert Olsen II and Melody Olsen of Harrison, Arkansas, and Ann and Rick Miller of Mason City; along with aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his cousin, Sydney Nikole Alcorn.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd Street Northeast in Mason City, with Rev. Paul Lipstock officiating.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel.

Olsen will be laid to rest at Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City during a private family ceremony.
