Nothing beats fall in Iowa. As the leaves are turning and the temperatures begin to cool, high school football is at its best and farmers start making their way to the fields. As we enter this fall season, please be aware of the farm machinery on our highways and county roads ñ it’s important we all remember to drive safely. A tragic accident is never worth the few minutes you are trying to save. |Nothing beats fall in Iowa. As we’re now a few months out of the legislative session, groups are finishing up their review of the session and rating the bills that were passed. One of the groups to recently release a scorecard from the session was the Iowa Association of Business and Industry. This group is made up of Iowa businesses, large and small, united to focus on key issues such as: job growth, workforce, commerce, and a positive business climate.

In their assessment, there were numerous pieces of legislation that will have an impact on Iowa’s business climate. They selected ten votes to score on bills that dealt with property tax reform, regulatory reform and initiatives to improve Iowa’s job climate. To view the rankings, you can visit www.iowaprosperity.com. I am proud that myself and most of the House Republicans, received a score of 100% on these important pieces of legislation.

Over the course of the 2011 session, House Republicans focused on three things:

Creating an environment which welcomes employers and encourages them to invest in our workforce.
Passing an affordable and responsible budget that does not spend more money than the state takes in.
Standing up to the creeping federal regulation and burdensome intrusion into the lives and businesses of Iowans.
We took a strong stand on preserving our state as a right to work state and reining in government spending. Both of these show businesses across the country that our state is stable and open for business.

These principles outlined many of the bills brought forth and passed by the House this year, so it is no surprise that we were recognized by businesses from all over the state for doing what it takes to put Iowans back to work.

Too many of our bills such as income tax cut, property tax reform and the Health Care Freedom Act were dead on arrival in the Senate last session. I am determined to keep working on these and other initiatives prior to and during the next legislative session. Iowans want to leave the politics at the door and expect us to address the real challenges many are facing in this economy.
