ALEXANDER COLLECTS WBCA ALL-AMERICA HONOR

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Senior Kachine Alexander was honored Saturday as a State Farm Coaches All-America Team honorable mention selection, presented by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA). |IOWA CITY, Iowa — Senior Kachine Alexander was honored Saturday as a State Farm Coaches All-America Team honorable mention selection, presented by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA). Alexander was one of 40 NCAA Division I women’s basketball student-athletes chosen to the State Farm Coaches All-America teams.

Alexander now has more All-America awards than any other player in school history. The Minneapolis, Minn., native was named a WBCA and Associated Press honorable mention All-American in both her junior and senior seasons, for a total of four All-America honors. Michelle Edwards collected three first team All-America awards in 1988 and Cara Consuegra earned two honorable mention accolades in 2001.

Edwards, Consuegra and Alexander are the only players in school history to earn two or more All-America awards in the same season. Alexander is the only Hawkeye player to ever receive All-America distinctions in multiple seasons.

Last season, Alexander became the seventh player in school history to receive All-America recognition from the WBCA. Edwards (1988), Franthea Price (1990) and Toni Foster (1993) were first team selections, while Consuegra (2001), Jennie Lillis (2003) and Crystal Smith (2006) were honorable mention picks.

Head Coach Lisa Bluder and her staff have now guided five players to a total of nine All-America honors while at Iowa.

Along with being named an Associated Press and WBCA All-American, Alexander was a first team all-Big Ten selection and was one six players selected to the Big Ten all-Defensive team. She was also a WBCA all-Region pick.

Alexander was one of three Big Ten players named to the State Farm Coaches All-America team, presented by the WBCA. Ohio State’s Jantel Lavender was one of the 10 players named to the first team, while Michigan State’s Kalisha Keane was also named honorable mention.
