CEDAR RAPIDS – A personal watercraft collision on the Cedar River near Ellis Park in Cedar Rapids has resulted in a fatality.
Michael Scott Paulsen, 53, of Cedar Rapids, was killed after a personal watercraft he was operating at approximately 7 p.m. Wednesday collided with another personal watercraft being operated by his brother, Gary Paulsen, 56, also of Cedar Rapids. Both men were transported to St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids where Michael Paulsen later died and Gary Paulsen was treated and released.The Cedar Rapids police and fire departments as well as local bystanders helped recover the Paulsens from the river following the collision.
The incident is still under investigation by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
