Dennis Nixt, age 78, of Dakota City passed away on Sunday July 13, 2025 at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care. Celebration of Life visitation will be held 4 – 7 pm on Friday July 18th at Lentz Funeral Home in Humboldt.
Dennis William Nixt, the son of William Charles and Betty (Burrier) Nixt, was born on June 12, 1947 in Charles City, Iowa. He graduated in 1966 from Charles City High School. Dennis then received his bachelor’s degree in Education from Westmar College in 1970. He had worked at Oliver Corp., Ozark National Life Insurance, Hy Capacity, Jet Co., Snap-On Tools, Rabiner and the Fort Dodge Prision. On December 29, 1975 Dennis was united in marriage with Sarah Schwartzkopf in Lake Tahoe, NV.
Dennis enjoyed wrestling in high school and college. He placed second at the state wrestling tournament his junior year. Dennis was a member of the Woodworking Club and in his free time he enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, riding his Harley and dismantling houses and barns for lumber.
Left to cherish Dennis’s memory is his wife of 49 years, Sarah; daughters, Erin (Andrew) Pedersen of Humboldt and Emily (Jay) Lynch of Gilmore City; grandchildren, Jacob and Darla Pedersen and Allison (Brody Paterson) Nathan and Erika Lynch; sisters, Linda (Richard) Brunner of Riceville and Patsy Beaver of Charles City; brothers-in-law, Mark Schwartzkopf and John Schwartzkopf both of Charles City; and a sister-in-law, Julie (John) Sivill of Lakeside, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Gary Nixt and Cynthia Ross.
