Avis Irene Müller was born on December 19, 1932, to Walter and Goldie (Woodley) Müller. She grew up as an only child on the family farm in Osage, Iowa, where her farm kitties were her constant companions. Avis attended a one-room country school for eight years before graduating from Rudd High School in 1950.
She went on to attend Lindenwood College and later Drake University, where she met the love of her life, Dale, in 1951. Avis and Dale were married in 1952 and together raised three children, Debra, Cynthia, and Jeffrey. They lived in Des Moines and Waverly before settling in Mason City in 1962, where Avis remained until her passing.
Avis had a lifelong passion for music. She began by teaching piano lessons and later shared her gift as an elementary music teacher after earning her B.A. in Music Education from the University of Iowa. Her love for music lived on through her children and grandchildren, who carry that joy with them.
Beyond music, Avis loved cheering for the Iowa Hawkeyes, playing golf, traveling, and enjoying card games and adventures with their many close friends. She and Dale spent winters in Arizona, Palm Springs, and Florida, making treasured memories along the way. Avis was an active member of P.E.O., study club, church circle, several card groups and served as a docent for the Stockman House.
In her later years, Avis remained deeply connected to her family, friends, and her faith community at Trinity Lutheran Church. Her enduring love for Dale and for all of us will forever be remembered.
Those left to cherish memories of Avis are her children, Debra Ausenhus of Lakewood Ranch, FL, Cindy (Will Button) Carter of Sarasota, FL, Jeffrey (Lynne) Jensen of Pleasant Hill, Iowa; six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Avis is preceded in death by her husband, Dale, son-in-law, Dennis and her parents, Walter and Goldie Müller.
