IOWA CITY – A fire truck at an elderly folks home was leaving the scene of a medical call when it struck and killed a 99-year-old woman walking on the property.
Authorities report that at 6:46 AM on Sunday, February 23, 2025, the Iowa City Fire Department responded to a medical call at Legacy Senior Living, 1020 S. Scott Blvd. While leaving the scene and returning to routine service, the fire engine was involved in an accident with a pedestrian that resulted in a fatality. The Iowa State Patrol has been contacted to investigate.
According to a report from the Iowa State Patrol, 99-year-old Evelyn Bothmer of Iowa City was struck by the fire engine. She was declared deceased at the scene.
