Kesler Eugene Schulmeister, 33, of Tripoli, died Thursday evening, March 13, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, March 17, 2025, at Crosspoint Church, 215 3rd St. NW, (the NW entrance is handicap accessible) in Waverly with Rev. Dan Pattengill officiating. Interment will follow the luncheon on Monday at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ Cemetery, rural Sumner. Visitation will be from 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM, Sunday, March 16th at Becker & Son Funeral Home in Sumner, and for one-hour preceding services at the Church on Monday. Memorials may be made to the family for later designation.
Kesler Eugene, son of Paul and Wendy (Judisch) Schulmeister was born June 13, 1991, at Community Memorial Hospital in Sumner. He was baptized as an infant and confirmed at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, rural Sumner, and rededicated to the Lord in January of 2024, through water baptism at Crosspoint Church in Waverly.
In his younger years, he was a member of the Waverly Chess Club, participated in basketball, golf, the National Honor Society, and was also President of the F.F.A. Kesler went to Tripoli high school, class of 2009, where he met and later married his high school sweetheart, Kara. Kesler was born a farmer and continued to pursue that passion, obtaining a degree in business and agriculture from Hawkeye community college. In 2011, he started at the City of Tripoli, eventually becoming the public works director and water/wastewater operator. Kesler continued to farm with his family. On February 7, 2015, he was united in marriage with Kara Stahlhut in Clearwater Beach, Florida. In 2017, they were blessed with a son, Estin Eugene. Kesler was a long-time member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, where he served on Church Council and was an usher, prior to becoming a faithful member of Crosspoint Church in Waverly. He enjoyed cutting wood, working on the farm, playing cards, especially Schafkopf, and playing bags. His greatest joy however, was time spent with his family, especially his son, Estin. Kesler was a man dedicated to his faith and family.
Kesler is survived by his wife, Kara of Tripoli; and son, Estin; parents, Paul and Wendy Schulmeister of Sumner; mother-in-law, Barb (Darren) Franzenburg of Vinton; father-in-law, Matt (Nora) Stahlhut of Holland; maternal grandparents, Eugene (Janet) Judisch of Sumner and Jennifer Rieger of Waverly; grandparents-in-law, Keith Stahlhut of Tripoli, Cheryl Dahlstrom of Tripoli and Pam Kottke of Sumner; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Karly Stahlhut, Katlyn (Cory) Mayhew, Misty and Zach Harreld and Dillon, Dayton, and Dakoda Franzenburg; and several aunts, uncles, nephews, extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, John and Barbara Schulmeister; great-grandparents, Arnold and Lydia Judisch and William and Dora Zander; grandfathers-in-law, Keith Dahlstrom and Charlie Kottke; and other family members, Trevor Stahlhut and Christopher Judisch.
