Alan was born on December 23, 1940 in the Hamilton Hospital, in Webster City, Iowa to Andrew and Clesine Marie (Otteros) Caruth. He graduated from Williams High School Class of 1959. He then began farming with his dad, as his family also owned a trucking business and needed his help. He ended up purchasing a straight truck and became part of Caruth Trucking for many years. Shary’s Dad owned Farmers Elevator Co. and he hired Al to haul feed from Waterloo to Williams for many years. Al also was on the crew that built both big annexes there.

On February 24, 1962, he and Shary Beisner were united in marriage at Trinity Lutheran Church, in Webster City. They were blessed with 62 years of marriage and two sons. Ky Alan was born on August 3, 1963 and passed away due to SIDS on October 3, 1963. Their second son, Culley Caruth, was born on November 4, 1970, and is engaged in farming the family farms, and is a blessing to our family.

Al was a lifelong member of Vernon Lutheran Church of rural Dows, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed there and served as church council president.

The couple also has two beautiful granddaughters, Shayler K Caruth, of Mesa, Arizona, and Karri Marie Caruth, of Des Monies, Iowa.

Later in life, Al bought a semi and traveled coast to coast, something he always wanted to do. Shary often road with him and saw the USA. Later Cull bought a semi also, and the two of them enjoyed traveling down the road together.

Al belonged to several tractor clubs and went on all of the tractor rides he could. He loved people and made many friends along the way. Several rides were organized with guys from Williams, Blairsburg, Webster City, etc., and several guys would go for the day, having a great time. Their tractors were all shined up and each guy was smiling and ready to ride and enjoy each other!

Al was known as “Redman” because he always drove his dad’s red IH tractor, all shined up, in honor of his dad, and he always wore red shirts. So today each of his family members has something red on, in honor of the man who loved and adored each or us, as we did him!
