MASON CITY – Summer camps are available to kids this summer at NIACC.
Are you looking for ways to keep the kids busy this summer? Activities that are fun and provide a unique learning experience? North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) is offering several new summer camps this year that will provide much needed mental and physical stimulation for those long summer days.
The North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) Mind Mania camp is the best week of the summer! NIACC’s Mind Mania day camp will run from June 18-June 22 and offer campers the chance to exercise their minds in the morning and their energy in the afternoon. Kids entering grades 3-7 can find out exactly what the excitement is this summer when they attend the week-long camp. Camp will run every day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and kids will explore areas like sports nature, forensics, creative writing, computers, theater, and more! Plus our instructors are top of the line from BA’s to PhD’s…NIACC has it all. Join in on all the fun this summer and get in on Mind Mania! Following a morning of fun and learning, campers will break for lunch with entrees such as cheeseburgers, pizza, spaghetti, all-beef hot dogs, and chicken nuggets. In the afternoon the fun continues with high-energy activities. Your camper will enroll in only one morning session and one afternoon session. That means every camper will choose one class to take all week long for the morning and one class to take all week long for the afternoon session. Space is limited so sign up today.
Want to learn the skills it takes to be a champion livestock evaluator? Maybe you just want to learn more about your 4-H and FFA livestock projects. From the novice to the advanced, the NIACC Livestock Judging Camp is for you. The Livestock Judging Camp will be held on June 22-June 23. All 4-H and FFA members aged 10 to 18 are eligible to attend. Campers will stay in the new Campus View Student Housing Complex, and will experience the college life, all while developing their judging skills. Scheduled day sessions include the evaluation of both breeding and market animals, notetaking, terminology discussions, understanding how a judging contest is ran and how it is scored, oral reasons, the history of livestock evaluation and a tour of NIACCS campus. At the conclusion of the educational seminars campers can put their new knowledge to the test in a judging contest and be eligible for many awards! The contest will consist of a junior division (10 to 13 years of age) and a senior division (14 to 18 years of age) and awards will be given for top evaluators within species, for oral reasons, and for overall score.
Join us for a Creative Writing summer camp at NIACC on July 9-11 where students entering 9th, 10th, and 11th grades will explore a variety of creative genres of writing and career opportunities through hands-on activities. Campers will stay in the new Campus View Student Housing at NIACC and work closely with faculty and college students to get a feel for the college experience. Scheduled day sessions include workshops and sharing of individual work. Campers will work with college instructors and meet people who have written creative work for publication. Campers will attend a career panel to learn more about careers writing creative works, and discuss the importance of creative work to society on the whole. Extra-curricular and evening activities include a movie and some fun and play on the pond.
Campers at the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) camp will explore a variety of science disciplines and career fields through hands-on activities. Campers will stay in the new Campus View Student Housing at NIACC and work closely with faculty and college students to get a feel for the college experience. Scheduled day sessions include experiments and activities in Forensics, Chemistry, Biology, Engineering, Environmental Science and Coding. Campers will be one of the first students to interact with the newly acquired Anatomage Table, which is a state of the art virtual cadaver. Extra-curricular and evening activities will include engineering competitions and science-based art projects. Campers will leave camp with an improved understanding of STEM disciplines and career options, exposure to the college experience, and many fun memories! The STEM camp will be held on July 11-13 is open to students entering grades 8-10.
