Police in Ames track female female suspect’s snow tracks after shooting; hiding under car

AMES - Two women in altercation led to a shooting, and the suspect fled the scene only to be tracked by snow prints and nabbed by cops hiding under a car.

AMES – Two women in altercation led to a shooting, and the suspect fled the scene only to be tracked by snow prints and nabbed by cops hiding under a car.

On Sunday, February 5, 2023, at 10:39 AM, the Ames Police Department responded to the area of 204 Jewel Drive based on the report of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers located shell casings and witnesses reported a suspect hiding under a vehicle in the 3300 block of South Duff Avenue. The suspect was injured while fleeing the scene. Officers tracked her footprints in the snow back and located the weapon.

Police say the shooting stems from an argument between two females. The suspect fired two shots in the air, and no one was injured, other than the suspect. The suspect was transported to Mary Greeley Medical Center with an injury to her ankle. Her name is being withheld pending positive identification.

Currently, the suspect is being charged with:

– Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon, a class “C” Felony

– Assault, an Aggravated Misdemeanor

Additional charges are pending.
