Two simultaneous fires in rural Clear Lake handled by area firefighters overnight

CLEAR LAKE – The Clear Lake Fire Department responded to 2 rural structure fires Sunday evening and Monday morning, they reported.

The first incident occurred at 7442 Balsam Ave South of Ventura at 11:54 PM Sunday. For a reported structure fire in a shop building owned by Paul and Danika Buckley. Clear Lake Fire Department responded to assist Ventura Fire department to provided manpower and water hauling assistance, CLFD responded with 3 engines and 16 firefighters.

While operating at this fire scene, CLFD was dispatched to a second rural structure fire at 11108 285th street north and east of Clear Lake at 1:01 AM Monday. Due to the second incident occurring while operating at the first fire mutual aid was requested immediately from Mason City Fire Department who responded with 1 Engine and 2 Firefighters. CLFD responded with 3 Engines and Squad unit and an ambulance with 19 firefighters. Additional aid was also requested to supply water hauling capacity. Aid was received from Manly, Plymouth, and Hanlontown Fire Departments with additional 16 firefighters.

The fire at the 280th street address involved a repair shop, and hay storage barn, with 10 separate cars, and a small storage building all burning when Fire Departments arrived. Multiple other building exposures were threatened but Fire Department staff was able to contain the fire to the initial structures involved. Crews left the scene at 4:24 AM and all units were back in service at 5:20 AM. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The property is owned by Sally Levad and is insured. There were no injuries.
