Clear Lake house fire forces evacuation, causes major damage to structure

CLEAR LAKE – A house fire Sunday in Clear Lake forced the occupants to evacuate and major damage to the structure.

The Clear Lake Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire Sunday, January 19, 2016 at approximately 11:18 AM. The Clear Lake Police Department and Clear Lake Fire Department responded to 531 27th Ave South in Clear Lake. Upon arrival, heavy smoke and fire was showing from the basement level with heavy smoke extending throughout the 3 story home. The occupants of the home had safely evacuated prior to the fire department’s arrival. Firefighters entered the home, contained the fire to a basement level family room of the home. Ventilation of the smoke and heat was obtained with multiple positive pressure fans. Major damage was contained to the basement level with water and smoke damage thru out the house.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Damage is estimated to be over $200,000. The property is owned by Stephen Gooding. The owner does have insurance for the property. The Clear Lake Fire Department responded with 2 engine companies, 1 ladder company, 1 ambulance with 15 firefighters and was assisted by the Ventura Fire Department with 3 companies and 10 firefighters. Also assisting was the Clear Lake Police department.

There were no injuries.

All fire companies returned to service at 2:30 PM.
