Cerro Gordo county residents asked to continue prevention efforts as businesses re-open

MASON CITY – CG Public Health would like to thank residents who are taking steps to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 in our community. As of today, April 28th, there are 14 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Cerro Gordo County. Due to the stable number of cases, Gov. Reynolds is lifting some restrictions on Cerro Gordo County starting Friday, May 1st.

“We know this is a difficult time,” said Director of CG Public Health, Brian Hanft. “Many closures are affecting daily life and the concern about COVID-19 is real and understandable. This pandemic has caused uncertainty and loss of control; however, we want residents to remember they can control their own personal actions. It’s important for everyone to do their part by continuing to practice basic infection control measures and social distancing – this simply means to stay away from groups of people of 10 or more, and to keep a 6-foot distance from other individuals.”

Symptoms of COVID-19 include cough, fever (100.4 or greater) and shortness of breath. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms or recently been exposed to COVID-19, you should call your health care provider or the MercyOne Family Health Line at (641) 428-7777 for an initial phone screening.

CG Public Health recommends all residents, especially those over 60 years of age or immunocompromised, to:
Stay home as much as possible. Leave only for essential errands like groceries or getting medication. When you run these errands, send only one person from the household, if possible.
Stay home when even mildly ill (the kind of illness that normally would not prevent you from your everyday activities)
Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or your elbow/upper arm.
Wash hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
Disinfect frequently touched surfaces.
