Autopsy confirms identity of body found in Marshalltown is missing Mason City woman

MARSHALLTOWN – An autopsy has confirmed the identity of a body found in Marshalltown is that of a missing Mason City woman and no foul play is suspected.

On Monday, April 15, 2019, at 9:07 a.m., the Marshalltown Police Department received a report of a discovered corpse in a farm field just east of Walmart (2800 block of South Center Street). Upon arrival, law enforcement located the body of what appeared to be an adult, female. The identity of the body could not be confirmed on April 15. Preliminary information suggested this was the body of Michelle Marie Grommet, age 32, of Mason City, Iowa. Ms. Grommet was reported to the Marshalltown Police Department as a missing person on March 22.

On Tuesday, April 16, an autopsy was performed on the recovered body. The identity of the deceased has been confirmed as Michelle Marie Grommet. The cause and manner of death have not yet been determined and are pending final autopsy results. At this time, there is no evidence, or information, which suggests foul play is associated with Ms. Grommet’s death.

The Marshalltown Police Department and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation continue to investigate the Grommet missing person case. The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office and the Mason City Police Department have also assisted with this investigation.
