Barn destroyed in rural Clear Lake Saturday morning

CLEAR LAKE – A barn was destroyed in a rural Clear Lake fire this weekend.

The Clear Lake Fire Department was dispatched to 19161 Hickory Ave, rural Clear Lake, for a report of a barn fire, on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at approximately 10:04 AM. The Clear Lake Fire Department responded with 3 Engine Companies and 1 command vehicle with 10 firefighters. Ventura Fire Department was requested for mutual aid due to the rural location of the incident and no nearby fire hydrants. They responded with 2 engine companies and 7 firefighters.

Upon CLFD arrival, the barn was fully involved in fire and efforts were focused on protecting nearby structures from further damage. The residence, 2 grain silos, and a workshop did however sustain heat damage while the barn is a total loss. The barn had been used to store construction materials and equipment. The property is owned by Shannon and John Furst and they had attempted to control the fire before the Fire Department’s arrival. The property is insured.

No injuries occurred.

The fire began in the loft area of the barn and is believed to have been electrical in origin. Fire Department staff remained on scene for 2-1/2 hours.
