NIACC men in ninth after first day at Wartburg

WAVERLY – The NIACC men’s golf team shot a first round 316 on the first day of the Wartburg College Invitational Friday at the Prairie Links Golf Club.

NIACC is in ninth place heading into Saturday’s second round. Kirkwood is in first with a 289 and Simpson is in second with a 304.

NIACC was led by Anthony Emanuel with a 73. Also for the Trojans, Zach Nicholson shot a 76, Joe Nordquist shot a 83, Devin Koob shot a 84 and Mitchell Scholl shot a 89.

Emanuel’s 73 was the low round of the spring for him and Nicholson’s 76 was a season low and tied a career low, which he has now shot four times.

Playing as individuals for the Trojans were Josh Schaefer with a career-low 75 and Zach Bond with a 82.

Kirkwood’s JD Goodfellow is the individual leader with a two-under 70.

Round two of the tournament is Saturday with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
