MASON CITY – An Albert Lea, Minnesota an is faces two felony counts of forgery after he was caught at a local grocery store passing a bad check.
Mason City police officers were dispatched to Fareway, 400 North Delaware Avenue, on the morning of Monday, January 30, for a subject trying to pass a fraudulent check. As a result of an investigation, 40-year-old Derek Dean Hanson was located and arrested on two counts of felony forgery and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was taken to the county jail, booked and held. He also had a check from another local business that was made out to him for over $475.
Hanson posted $5,000 surety bond the next day and was released from jail, pending a February 13 court hearing.
Two other Albert Lea women, Alicia Sofia Marie Villarreal and Sabrina Maria Angel Truesdell, were taken to jail, as well, as police continue to investigate the incident.
