MASON CITY – An afternoon bender and a snooze on a Cultural Crescent park bench landed one man in jail, even as cops searched for another possibly intoxicated subject who was said to be making “obscene gestures” in the immediate area.
Records show that Mason City police were called a number of times on the early afternoon Tuesday to the Central Park area, in the heart of the Cultural Crescent, for allegedly intoxicated individuals.
The trouble began at about 1 PM when police were called to investigate an allegedly drunk individual who was making obscene gestures. The subject was reported to have just left a transit bus and was near Central Park. Police could not locate the man in question.
About an hour later, police were called back to the same area after a report of an allegedly drunk individual who was said to be lying on a bench in Central Park.
Officers arrived and arrested 50-year-old Jeffery Eliason of Mason City for public intoxication. Police told NIT that a witness said Eliason “may have been with another male that had departed from a transit bus at the Central Park stop. One of the men supposedly made some obscene gestures.”
Eliason was still in jail Wednesday afternoon, held on $300.00 cash or surety bond.

The gestures were intended for the high priced sculptures – you know like we do – drive by and give the 1 finger salute.

Ever since Eric was witnessed at the former OP – drunk, yelling and stumbling about with Brent the Bouncer – he has confined most of his drinking to his man-cave where he drinks Moscow Mules and chain smokes cigarettes. He won’t go out in public because he fears NIT will be given a photo or video of his buffoonery and publish it. If he does go out, he leaves town or goes to the Country Club.
Just wondering, is resting on a park bench illegal. Oh that’s right, he was intoxicated. I guess it depends on who you are if you get arrested or not. Because I know that when the city has their monthly wing dings in central park, some of those upper crust partakers are intoxicated.
@Allen, I was wondering the same thing. Some of these people work the third shift and their morning is our evening. Since he was not driving, what is the harm?
I remember the bakery workers in Clear Lake living it up and dancing in the bars in Clear Lake at 7:00 AM back in the 70’s. I don’t understand this “Public Intox charge thing, did this guy harm someone?
