MASON CITY – A traffic collision Friday afternoon just outside Mason City sent a Britt woman to the hospital.

On April 12, 2024, at 12:31 PM, the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two vehicle collision with personal injury in the 17,000 block of Lark Avenue. According to the sheriff’s office, 69-year-old Connie Jo Pavelka of Britt was driving a blue 2022 Chevrolet Equinox southbound in the 17,000 block of Lark Avenue. Pavelka was slowing down for the railroad crossing on Lark Avenue, following the direction of a posted traffic sign that warned of rough crossing with a suggested speed of 20 miles per hour. While Pavelka was slowing down, a 2012 White Chevrolet Traverse driven by 27-year-old Michaela Catherine Cleveland of Forest City was also driving southbound in the 17,000 block of Lark Avenue. Cleveland allegedly had a taken her eyes off the roadway, and as she looked back to the roadway, she collided with Pavelka’s vehicle.

As a result of the collision, Pavelka was transported to Mercy One North Iowa by Mason City Fire Medics with suspected minor injuries.

The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Mason City Fire Department and Clear Lake Fire Department.
