RURAL CERRO GORDO COUNTY – Two Northern Iowa men are dead in a crash near Fertile Friday night.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, the accident took place Friday, July 22, 2022. At about 8:15 PM that evening, a 2006 GMC Sierra was northbound on Fir Avenue, near 330th Street, south of Fertile. The driver, 31-year-old Paul Swann of Fertile, lost control of the vehicle and it entered a ditch, then reentered the roadway, and then entered a ditch for a second time. The vehicle eventually came to rest on the passenger side in the south ditch of 330th Street.
As a result of the crash, Paul Swann was killed. Also killed was 33-year-old Cody Keeney of Fertile. Injured in the crash was 31-year-oldJen Berggren of Mason City.
The crash remains under investigation.
The Iowa State Patrol was assisted by the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Department, Mason City EMS, Clear Lake EMS, and Hanlontown Fire Department First Responders.
