Memorials may be directed to the family at 715 2nd Ave, Ackley, Iowa 50601.
Lavina was born May 21, 1929 in the family on Platte Lake near Brainerd, Minnesota. She was the youngest of August and Margarete Imm’s twelve children, all named in alphabetic order.
After graduating from high school in Brainerd, she attended Kahler School of Nursing in Rochester. As a student she met Arlyss Saathoff, who’s father John, was a patient. On a dare from Arlyss’s uncle Peter, Arlyss asked Lavina to church. Upon graduation, Arlyss and Lavina wed on November 30, 1951 in St. John’s E & R Church in Ackley.
After a honeymoon in the Great Smokey Mountains, Lavina moved in with Arlyss and his father. Together they cared for John who was unable to walk. In her early years of marriage, she provided in-home nursing care for several community members.
Lavina loved traveling to parks and historic sites, and visiting family members. She was a creative person who enjoyed knitting and crocheting. Also making greeting cards for her kids.
Lavina is survived by her children Karen and David and many nieces and nephews. She greatly appreciated visits and calls from nephews Ted Hardman and Mike Imm; nieces Edie Arnold and Donna Bush; cousin Isle Kay Saathoff; friends Francis Fritz, Eileen Kruse, Maggie and Larry Knott.
Thank you to St. Croix Hospice for the care they have shown Lavina and her family. Thank you also to the staff of Grand JiVante in caring for Lavina and supporting David who is employed there.
