CHARLES CITY – The Floyd county sheriff’f office says they are taking reports of IRS scam attempts at this time, and citizens should be wary of suspicious callers.
The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement that they have taken 4 calls Thursday, June 14, of a phone scam. Area law enforcement has taken a dozen more over the last few days. The callers state they are from the IRS or Social Security and threaten to have you arrested for not paying taxes or overpayment and request you send money.
The sheriff’s office says the IRS does not call people and you will not be arrested in connection with these calls. The callers may have your name and address as this is readily available on the internet. The sheriff’s office reminds citizens to never give out any personal information over the phone.
