Why is there a Metalcraft Grant payment for $35,000? And why is there a FedEx Grant payment for $17,000?

They have tax rebate economic development agreements with the City. They pay their property taxes and, if they meet the requirements of their agreement, the City pays a portion of the taxes back to them.

That is bullshit. Subsidizing private business with tax money to get them to improve their business so they can make more money is bullshit!

would you rather they take their multi-millon dollar payroll and leave?
Without private business, there are no public dollars to spend. I think its time you and others understand that. I think Trump does

I would rather they paid for their own business and my tax dollars went to what they are supposed to which is maintaining the city. No one gives me money to repair my house and I pay taxes too.

If you improve your house and it raises your property taxes, you can apply for tax abatement from the City. These businesses aren’t getting any of your tax dollars. They are getting back what they paid in property taxes and new valuation that they created in exchange for creating jobs.

They do pay their own. They get offered a tax break, like pay 3% instead of 6% on a 2 million dollar property. Instead of moving to Cedar falls and pay 2% on a 3 million dollar property. All cities do it, that is how you keep business and industry in your community.

Bull. Just how many jobs have they created? And how much is the CEO or owner making? Don’t feed me that crap.

They could have taken their business to another community, and then Mason City would get 0% on 2 million dollar property, and lost jobs for all their employees.

Someone else would take it over and we wouldn’t have to subsidize their business so they could make a profit.

Let’s make it simple. No new building built, no new taxes. Once the tax rebate expires there will be an additional $76,000 per year on the tax rolls. Plus Metalcraft is locally owned with a million plus payroll with 75 employees with a majority living in Mason City. But yeah the City probably should have told them they didn’t want their business here.

Lets make it real simple. Pay for your own business and leave my tax money alone. It means nothing to me how many they employ at $10.00 p/hr.

So what are your taxes on your mobile home? You just rent the lot space though, right?

They actually pay quite a bit more than $10 per hour. And once again, your tax dollars do not have anything to do with their business!

Clearly a simpleton, with a feeble mind, not quite understanding how economics and job markets work.
