ALTOONA, IOWA – An Iowa woman has been arrested for murder after the shooting death of a man months ago.
On August 10, 2022, at 7:40 PM, police officers were called to the 2200 block of 3rd Ave SW, Altoona, Iowa, on a shooting. John Killen, age 41 of Altoona, was found deceased with multiple gunshot wounds inside the home. According to an obituary, “John worked most of his life as a diesel mechanic. In his free time he enjoyed fishing and camping. He also could be found looking at trucks, listening to music and being the life of the party.”
All individuals at the house cooperated with authorities.
A joint investigation was conducted by the Altoona Police Department, Polk County Attorney’s Office, and the Division of Criminal Investigation before the case was reviewed by the Iowa Attorney General, Brenna Bird.
On March 15, 2023, Marique Ruth, age 43 of Altoona, was arrested for first-degree murder and booked into Polk County Jail.
The Altoona Police Department would like to extend our sympathy to John’s family. While this arrest will not bring back their loved one, we hope they will find justice in the arrest. We thank them for their patience and cooperation throughout this investigation.
