MASON CITY – A man wanted in Illinois for parole violations was recently arrested by police at a local watering hole, intoxicated and with methamphetamine.
Mason City police were called to Tailgaters bar, 627 South Federal Avenue, on January 23 just before 1:00 AM for what was described as a “suspicious person”. Officers arrived and after an investigation, they arrested Michael Atkins, Jr., who had been living on the North End of town. Atkins was allegedly in possession of the powerful narcotic methamphetamine and was also intoxicated. This is at least the second arrest for public intox at this bar in recent weeks.
Atkins was taken to the county jail, where he remains held. He has entered a not guilty plea to meth possession and awaits a trial in April. He is currently being held on no bond for a state of Illinois parole violation.
