BENTON COUNTY, IOWA – An early morning crash on an icy Iowa highway involving a van with 10 people inside and three other vehicles took the lives of three people.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, a four-vehicle crash occurred Thursday morning at about 5:20 AM on highway 30 east of 16th Avenue in Benton county. A 2007 Toyota Sienna van – which safely seats 7 – was carrying 10 people when it lost control on the ice-covered roadway. It proceeded to strike a 2008 Toyota Corolla. The van then rolled. At that time, the van was struck by a third vehicle, a 2003 Saturn Vue. A fourth vehicle, a 2009 Chevy Impala, then struck the Corolla.
Three people were killed in the accident. Their names were not yet released, pending notification of families. The crash is under investigation.
