MASON CITY – One person was injured early Tuesday morning in a collision on Highway 18 outside Mason City.
According to the Cerro Gordo county sheriff’s office, at about 4:15 AM, deputies responded to a two-vehicle accident at the ramp off Highway 18 and Mallard Avenue, eastbound lane. Deputies located a red 1996 Jeep Cherokee which struck the rear of a parked 2007 Freightliner strait truck, on the shoulder of the off-ramp. The driver was trapped inside the vehicle.
Emergency responders with the Mason City fire department extricated the the driver. Fire medics then transported the driver – who was not named – to Mercy Hospital with undisclosed injuries.
The driver of the freightliner was not injured.
